He also promises to be a friend of like-minded, far-right leaders the world over.<\/p>\n<p>It is, therefore, not surprising to see a special kind of friendship blossoming between Bolsonaro and Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe need good brothers like Netanyahu,\u201d Bolsonaro\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.globalresearch.ca\/brazils-bolsonaro-we-need-good-brothers-like-netanyahu\/5664309\">said<\/a> on January 1, the day of his inauguration in Brasilia.<\/p>\n<p>Bolsonaro is a \u201cgreat ally (and) a brother\u201d, Netanyahu <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=QcTdtqEfeLY\">replied<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>But, while Bolsonaro sees in Netanyahu a role model \u2013 for reasons that should worry many Brazilians \u2013 the country certainly does not need \u2018brothers\u2019 like the Israeli leader.<\/p>\n<p>Netanyahu\u2019s militancy,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/commentisfree\/2018\/jul\/23\/netanyahu-israeli-apartheid-palestinians-nation-state-law\">oppression<\/a> of the indigenous Palestinian people, his racially-motivated\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/indepth\/opinion\/black-lives-matter-israel-180329061234932.html\">targeting<\/a> of Black African immigrants and his persistent violations of international law are not at all what a country like Brazil needs to escape corruption, bring about communal harmony and usher in an era of regional integration and economic prosperity.<\/p>\n<p>Netanyahu, of course, was keen on attending Bolsonaro\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.haaretz.com\/israel-news\/.premium-netanyahu-to-leave-for-five-days-to-attend-bolsonaro-s-inauguration-in-brazil-1.6759168\">inauguration<\/a>, which is likely to go down in Brazilian history as an infamous day, where democracy and human rights came under their most serious threat since Brazil launched its democratic transition in the early 1980s.<\/p>\n<p>In recent years, Brazil has emerged as a sensible regional power that defended Palestinian&#8230;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/dissidentvoice.org\/2019\/01\/when-bolsonaro-and-netanyahu-are-brothers-why-brazil-should-shun-the-israeli-model\/\">Read more<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Newly-inaugurated Brazilian President, Jair Bolsonaro, is set to be the arch-enemy of the environment and of indigenous and disadvantaged communities in his country.
