{"id":391862,"date":"2019-01-06T23:38:33","date_gmt":"2019-01-06T22:38:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/newswire\/nbc-journalist-resigns-blasting-media-as-defender-of-washington-and-the-system\/"},"modified":"2019-01-06T23:38:33","modified_gmt":"2019-01-06T22:38:33","slug":"nbc-journalist-resigns-blasting-media-as-defender-of-washington-and-the-system","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/newswire\/nbc-journalist-resigns-blasting-media-as-defender-of-washington-and-the-system\/","title":{"rendered":"NBC journalist resigns, blasting media as \u201cdefender of Washington and the system\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"content\">\n<h3 class=\"nomargin\">\u00a0<\/h3>\n<h2>NBC journalist resigns, blasting media as \u201cdefender of Washington and the system\u201d<\/h2>\n<h5>\n<p>    By<br \/>\n    Bill Van Auken<br \/>\n    <br \/>5 January 2019<\/p>\n<\/h5>\n<p>William Arkin, a veteran reporter and security consultant for NBC News, resigned last week with a scathing and lengthy email exposing the role of the network and the broader corporate media as stenographers and apologists for Washington\u2019s vast military and intelligence apparatus under conditions of endless war.<\/p>\n<p>Describing himself as \u201ccompletely out of sync with the network, being neither a day-to-day reporter nor interested in the Trump circus,\u201d Akin said, \u201cI also found myself the lone voice that was anti-nuclear and anti-military.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He clarified that anti-military for him meant \u201copinionated but also highly knowledgeable, somewhat akin to a movie critic, loving my subject but also not shy about making judgements regarding the flops and the losers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Arkin recounts that he had \u201cargued endlessly with MSNBC about all things national security for years.\u201d He is a military veteran who served in US Army intelligence in the 1970s and went on to become a military consultant for both Greenpeace International and Human Rights Watch.
