{"id":382566,"date":"2018-10-27T01:42:17","date_gmt":"2018-10-27T00:42:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/newswire\/presstv-us-military-successfully-tests-anti-ballistic-missile\/"},"modified":"2018-10-27T01:42:17","modified_gmt":"2018-10-27T00:42:17","slug":"presstv-us-military-successfully-tests-anti-ballistic-missile","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/newswire\/presstv-us-military-successfully-tests-anti-ballistic-missile\/","title":{"rendered":"PressTV-US military successfully tests anti-ballistic missile"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p><strong>The US military says it has successfully tested a key missile system off the west coast of Hawaii, shooting down a medium-range ballistic missile.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On Friday, sailors aboard the USS John Finn successfully detected, tracked and targeted the rocket with an SM-3 Block IIA missile, the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) said.<\/p>\n<p>The missile, which is part of the Aegis system, is designed to increase the US military\u2019s capacity to knock down intercontinental ballistic missiles.<\/p>\n<p>The new system is being developed in a joint venture between arms giant Raytheon and Japan&#8217;s Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd.<\/p>\n<p>In January, the MDA said the US had spent about $2.2 billion on the system, while Japan spent around $1 billion.
