But amid the outcry over Khashoggi\u2019s death, many media and public figures still fail to acknowledge the war crimes Saudi Arabia is committing in Yemen with US assistance.<\/p>\n<p>Khashoggi, a columnist for The Washington Post, had written critically about the Saudi government and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. The Post reported that Mohammed had recently <span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/world\/national-security\/crown-prince-sought-to-lure-khashoggi-back-to-saudi-arabia-and-detain-him-us-intercepts-show\/2018\/10\/10\/57bd7948-cc9a-11e8-920f-dd52e1ae4570_story.html?utm_term=.0a81b28ad314\">attempted to lure Khashoggi<\/a><\/span> back to Saudi Arabia in an operation resembling an extrajudicial \u201crendition,\u201d where a person is forcibly removed from one country and taken to another for interrogation. <span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2018-10-10\/u-s-knew-of-saudi-plan-to-seize-missing-journalist-post-says\">Bloomberg reported<\/a><\/span> that the United States knew the Saudis planned to seize Khashoggi because US intelligence services had intercepted communications between Saudi officials discussing the plan. <span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/entry\/jamal-khashoggi-tortured-saudi-diplomat-reports_us_5bc736d8e4b0d38b5873dc98\">According to Turkish sources<\/a><\/span>, participants in Khashoggi\u2019s killing and dismemberment were Saudi operatives.<\/p>\n<p>Six days after Khashoggi\u2019s disappearance, New York Times columnist Thomas L. Friedman <span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2018\/10\/08\/opinion\/jamal-khashoggi-missing-saudi-journalist.html\">made the astounding claim<\/a><\/span>, \u201cIf Jamal has been abducted and murdered by agents of the Saudi government \u2026 [i]t would be an unfathomable violation of norms of human decency, worse not in numbers but in principle than even the Yemen war.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"banner_wrapper\" style=\"\">\n<div id=\"banner-247295\" class=\"banner subscribe-banner  banner-247295 bottom vert custom-banners-theme-default_style\" style=\"\"><a class=\"custom_banners_big_link\" href=\"#\"\/><\/p>\n<div class=\"banner_caption\" style=\"\">\n<div class=\"banner_caption_inner\">\n<div class=\"banner_caption_text\" style=\"\">\n<p><strong>Stay in the loop<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Never miss the news and analysis you care about.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Friedman\u2019s attempt to minimize the enormity of the carnage, including <span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ohchr.org\/EN\/NewsEvents\/Pages\/DisplayNews.aspx?NewsID=23479\">over 6,000 civilian casualties<\/a><\/span> and <span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2018\/04\/03\/middleeast\/yemen-worlds-worst-humanitarian-crisis-un-intl\/index.html\">the world\u2019s worst humanitarian crisis<\/a>,<\/span> resulting from three years of war in Yemen is not uncommon.
