{"id":378511,"date":"2018-09-25T09:19:04","date_gmt":"2018-09-25T08:19:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/newswire\/wsws-demands-turkey-release-max-zirngast-hatice-goz-and-mithatcan-turetken\/"},"modified":"2018-09-25T09:19:04","modified_gmt":"2018-09-25T08:19:04","slug":"wsws-demands-turkey-release-max-zirngast-hatice-goz-and-mithatcan-turetken","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/newswire\/wsws-demands-turkey-release-max-zirngast-hatice-goz-and-mithatcan-turetken\/","title":{"rendered":"WSWS demands Turkey release Max Zirngast, Hatice G\u00f6z and Mithatcan T\u00fcretken"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"content\">\n<h3 class=\"nomargin\">\u00a0<\/h3>\n<h2>WSWS demands Turkey release Max Zirngast, Hatice G\u00f6z and Mithatcan T\u00fcretken<\/h2>\n<h5>\n<p>    By<br \/>\n    the World Socialist Web Site Editorial Board<br \/>\n    <br \/>25 September 2018<\/p>\n<\/h5>\n<p> The <em>World Socialist Web Site<\/em> demands the immediate and unconditional release of Austrian graduate student and journalist Max Zirngast and two Turkish left-wing activists, Mithatcan T\u00fcretken and Hatice G\u00f6z, who were detained September 11 by the political police of the right-wing authoritarian regime of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on trumped-up charges of support for terrorism.<\/p>\n<p>Anti-terror units dragged Zirngast out of his Ankara apartment at 5 o\u2019clock in the morning, arresting the two Turkish citizens, also in Ankara, at the same time.<\/p>\n<p>After being held incommunicado and interrogated for 10 days, Zirngast, T\u00fcretken and G\u00f6z were finally formally arrested and remanded to custody by Judge Fatih Yilmaz, who claimed that, despite the authorities\u2019 \u201cinvestigations\u201d being incomplete, their conviction on the offense of \u201cbeing members of a terrorist organization\u201d was likely and that the defendants posed a flight risk.<\/p>\n<p>Pre-trial detention in Turkey is a form of legal limbo that can drag on for years without defendants ever being brought to court.<\/p>\n<p> Zirngast has written regularly on Turkish politics for the Austrian publication <em>re:<\/em> <em>volt<\/em>, the German daily <em>Junge Welt<\/em> as well as the US website Jacobin.
