The union is keeping workers in the dark about when a vote on the contracts will be held in order to buy time as it seeks to wear down opposition to the agreement and intimidate workers into voting \u201cyes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Teamsters have dispatched officials across the country to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wsws.org\/en\/articles\/2018\/08\/22\/blac-a22.html\">threaten<\/a> that workers will lose their health care coverage if they strike, that the contract is the \u201cbest they can get,\u201d and any agreement will be worse if they vote \u201cno.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Matt, a 25-year-old part-time warehouse worker of one year in Madison Heights, Michigan told <em>World Socialist Web Site UPS Workers Newsletter<\/em> reporters that the Teamsters are \u201csupposed to work for us, but it really feels like they don\u2019t. They work for themselves. There needs to be change.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He said that \u201cwe really have no way to relay our message.&#8221; He continued: &#8220;We\u2019re talking to the wall if we try to tell them anything. There\u2019s no one to hear us. The Teamsters union is not a voice for us. They say this is the \u2018best they can do,\u2019 but the \u2018best\u2019 is worse than our prior contract. So I don\u2019t believe that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The proposed contract will create a new tier of lower-paid \u201chybrid\u201d workers who can be shifted between the warehouse and delivery jobs.
