{"id":371222,"date":"2018-07-28T20:28:33","date_gmt":"2018-07-28T19:28:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/newswire\/julian-assange-and-the-betrayal-of-latin-americas-left\/"},"modified":"2018-07-28T20:28:33","modified_gmt":"2018-07-28T19:28:33","slug":"julian-assange-and-the-betrayal-of-latin-americas-left","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/newswire\/julian-assange-and-the-betrayal-of-latin-americas-left\/","title":{"rendered":"Julian Assange and the betrayal of Latin America\u2019s \u201cleft\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"content\">\n<h3 class=\"nomargin\">\u00a0<\/h3>\n<h2>Julian Assange and the betrayal of Latin America\u2019s \u201cleft\u201d<\/h2>\n<h5>\n<p>    28 July 2018<\/p>\n<\/h5>\n<p>Len\u00edn Moreno, the president of Ecuador, made it clear on Friday that his government is actively negotiating the handover of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange to the British authorities, whose police are waiting outside the Ecuadorian embassy to grab him the moment he sets foot on the London sidewalk.<\/p>\n<p>If he were to fall into the clutches of the British authorities, he would be subjected to lengthy imprisonment pending extradition to the US, where he could face life imprisonment or even the death penalty on espionage and conspiracy charges.<\/p>\n<p>Moreno, who is conducting a European tour seeking to ingratiate himself and his government with the major imperialist powers, went out of his way on Friday to vilify Assange.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve never agreed with the activity Mr. Assange performs,\u201d Moreno said. \u201cI\u2019ve never agreed with the intervention in people\u2019s emails to obtain information despite how valuable it is to shed light on some undesirable acts by governments and people\u2026 There are correct and legal ways to it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Previously, Moreno called Assange a \u201chacker,\u201d an \u201cinherited problem\u201d and a \u201cstone in our shoe.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>There is no evidence whatsoever that Assange or WikiLeaks hacked into anyone\u2019s emails or violated any law, for that matter.
