Niemuth and campaigners collected over 300 signatures in Ann Arbor, which includes University of Michigan, and Ypsilanti, a predominantly working-class city home to many autoworkers.<\/p>\n<div class=\"imageRight\" style=\"width:200px; oveflow:hidden;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.wsws.org\/asset\/8e47f685-8a40-422b-91cd-f927be3cd9aK\/image.jpg?rendition=image480\" srcset=\"\/asset\/8e47f685-8a40-422b-91cd-f927be3cd9aK\/image.jpg?rendition=image960 2x\" width=\"200\" style=\"width:200px;\" \/><span>SEP campaigner collecting signatures<\/span><\/div>\n<p>Niles issued a statement yesterday opposing the bipartisan war on immigrants being waged by the Democratic and Republican parties. \u201cThe Socialist Equality Party is fighting for the mobilization of the entire working class in defense of immigrants,\u201d Niles said. \u201cThe attacks on immigrant workers are aimed at all workers, native-born and immigrant alike. They are intended to pit workers against one another, while the Trump administration\u2019s erection of mass internment camps, run by the Navy, will ultimately be used against workers who oppose the ruling elite\u2019s policies of war and austerity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Niles noted that the Democratic Party\u2019s purported opposition to Trump\u2019s immigration policies was entirely cynical: \u201cIt was the Obama administration which deported 2.7 million immigrants, more than any other previous president.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Socialist Equality Party is the only party advancing an internationalist and socialist solution to the global refugee crisis.
