US televangelist Jesse Duplantis wants his congregation to chip in to buy him a new private jet \u2013 his fourth \u2013 because God told him so, apparently.<\/p>\n
Duplantis implored his congregation to help fund private jet number four because, if Jesus was alive today, he \u201cwouldn\u2019t be riding a donkey.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n According to Duplantis, whose wealth is valued at least $40<\/a> million, he hesitated about the purchase, until he remembered a tip God gave him back in 1978, \u201cI didn\u2019t ask you to pay for it. I asked you to believe for it.\u201d<\/em> Duplantis took the divine message to mean \u2018ask your flock to fork out for it.\u2019<\/p>\n The evangelical preacher explained the need for a fourth private jet on his \u2018This week with Jesse\u2019 show, in which he stood next to framed pictures of his fleet of jets before pointing out that the aircraft he bought 12 years ago required refuelling, meaning he had to pay \u201cexorbitant\u201d<\/em> refuelling costs.<\/p>\n The answer, according to Duplantis, is to get his followers to instead cover the exorbitant cost of purchasing a jet \u2013 specifically, a Dassault Falcon 7X, which costs about $54<\/a> million.<\/p>\n “Now, some people believe that preachers shouldn’t have jets,\u201d<\/em> Duplantis explained in a video on his website. \u201cI really believe that preachers ought to go on every available voice, every available outlet, to get this Gospel preached to the world.”<\/em> Clearly that doesn\u2019t extend to flying economy to spread the Lord\u2019s word.<\/p>\n READ MORE:\u00a0Televangelist politician Pat Robertson blames Black Monday on US support for abortion<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n While the televangelist may claim divine inspiration was behind the jet idea, it appears more likely he may have coveted his neighbor\u2019s possession, as fellow televangelist Kenneth Copeland bought himself a Gulfstream V jet in January.<\/p>\n The pair previously defended their need to fly privately, claiming commercial planes are simply filled with \u201ca bunch of demons,\u201d<\/em> that will inconvenience them with prayer requests.<\/p>\n Duplantis won\u2019t personally own the plane, he explained. It will be owned by Jesse Duplantis Ministries and when he dies, his successor will use it.
