{"id":363418,"date":"2018-05-30T20:26:44","date_gmt":"2018-05-30T19:26:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/newswire\/universities-branding-and-saudi-arabia\/"},"modified":"2018-05-30T20:26:44","modified_gmt":"2018-05-30T19:26:44","slug":"universities-branding-and-saudi-arabia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/newswire\/universities-branding-and-saudi-arabia\/","title":{"rendered":"Universities, Branding and Saudi Arabia"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>The modern university is a tertiary colonising institution.\u00a0 Like the old mercantilist bodies \u2013 the Dutch East India Company and its equivalents \u2013 the educational world is there to be acquired by bureaucrats, teachers and, it is hoped, suitable recruits.<\/p>\n<p>To that end, a good degree of amorality is required.\u00a0 Scruples are best left to others, and most certainly not university managers, who prefer counting the sums rather than pondering deontological principles.\u00a0 Such a point seems very much at the forefront of an arrangement between the Melbourne Graduate School of Education (MGSE) and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.\u00a0 The MGSE, which seems, in acronym, similar to a salt brand, struck gold in <a href=\"http:\/\/newsroom.melbourne.edu\/news\/saudi-arabia-chooses-melbourne-experts-transform-education\">its arrangement<\/a> to reform the Kingdom\u2019s school curriculum \u2013 some 36,000 schools in all comprising 500,000 teachers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis project,\u201d stated the Minister for Education Ahmed Bin Mohammed Al-Issa, \u201cwill have a significant impact on the development of the new educational process in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.\u201d\u00a0 It will require \u201cpatience\u201d, and the contributions of \u201cinternational experts\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Irons were already being laid in the fire the previous year, with thirty teachers from Saudi Arabia engaging a six month program \u201cdesigned,\u201d according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/education.unimelb.edu.au\/news_and_activities\/news\/news-articles\/2017\/graduate-school-welcomes-30-teachers-from-saudi-arabia\">MGSE dispatch<\/a>, \u201cto transform their teaching knowledge, skills and attitudes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The search for such experts is part of a broader Saudi mission, the \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/vision2030.gov.sa\/en\/ntp\">Vision 2030<\/a>\u201d ostensibly designed to produce a new&#8230;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/dissidentvoice.org\/2018\/05\/universities-branding-and-saudi-arabia\/\">Read more<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The modern university is a tertiary colonising institution.\u00a0 Like the old mercantilist bodies \u2013 the Dutch East India Company and its equivalents \u2013 the educational world is there to be acquired by bureaucrats, teachers and, it is hoped, suitable recruits.
