Why We Need Socialist Architects<\/a>\u201c, I argued that the only way 21st century socialism is going to get any traction with working class people is to not only have a socialist vision, but also to have feasible <em>plans<\/em> which suggest transitions in between the current capitalist crisis and our ultimate vision.<\/p>\n<p>In that article, I presented the following objections along with their rebuttal through a dialogue between two workers: an older worker, Andrew, and a young, anarchist worker, Sean. The objections of Sean to socialist planning transitions were:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Marx said a plan isn\u2019t necessary\u2014the workers of the future will figure this out.<\/li>\n<li>Workers are only capable of dealing with survival needs. Planning is too remote from every-day life for them.<\/li>\n<li>Plans are rigid and can\u2019t do justice to the complexity of social life.<\/li>\n<li>Plans aren\u2019t implemented as politics gets in the way. (Stalin\u2019s chaotic five-year plan)<\/li>\n<li>There is something inherently revolutionary about collective spontaneity.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Let\u2019s examine some small but hopeful moments that could benefit from and be deepened by socialists who have collective experience making socialist plans.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Disaster socialism as a precursor<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In his book <a href=\"http:\/\/www.waveland.com\/browse.php?t=543\"><em>Introduction to Collective Behavior and Collective Action<\/em><\/a>, David Miller cites convincing research demonstrating that natural disasters bring out the best rather than the worst in people&#8230;.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/dissidentvoice.org\/2017\/11\/socialist-planning-circles\/\">Read more<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Common objections to socialist planning from below In my last article, \u201cDo You Socialists Have Any Plans?
