{"id":333364,"date":"2017-11-03T12:27:30","date_gmt":"2017-11-03T11:27:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/newswire\/sessions-calls-for-end-to-diversity-visa-lottery\/"},"modified":"2017-11-03T12:27:30","modified_gmt":"2017-11-03T11:27:30","slug":"sessions-calls-for-end-to-diversity-visa-lottery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/newswire\/sessions-calls-for-end-to-diversity-visa-lottery\/","title":{"rendered":"Sessions Calls for End to Diversity Visa Lottery"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"\">\n<p>Attorney General Jeff Sessions\u00a0is calling for an end to the Diversity Visa Lottery, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/big-government\/2017\/10\/31\/report-nyc-foreign-terror-suspect-entered-u-s-with-diversity-visa-trump-wants-to-end\/\" target=\"_blank\">program<\/a> that allowed a New York City, New York terror suspect to enter the United States.<\/p>\n<p>During a speech in New York City, Sessions said the Diversity Visa Lottery, where more than 50,000 foreign nationals are randomly picked around to the world to come to the U.S., did not serve the interests of the American people and put the nation at risk.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[Ending the Diversity Visa Lottery] is the best way to ensure that the immigration system in America is benefitting America,\u201d Sessions said.\u00a0 \u201cWe don\u2019t use random chance in college admissions and we don\u2019t roll a die to hire people.\u00a0 By the same token, a lottery tells us nothing about who would thrive in this country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sessions said that along with ending the Diversity Visa Lottery, he called on Congress to help pass President Trump\u2019s popular pro-American immigration reforms, which would end family-based chain migration and reduce legal immigration levels to raise wages for Americans.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe President has also laid out a set of principles for immigration reform that would make us safer,\u201d Sessions said. \u201cFirst of all, by building the border wall and requiring legal status to get a job, this plan would dramatically cut down on the illegality in our system.\u00a0 It would help us keep better track of who is in this country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd just as importantly, the President\u2019s immigration plan would switch us to a merit-based&#8230;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/redice.tv\/news\/sessions-calls-for-end-to-diversity-visa-lottery\">Read more<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Attorney General Jeff Sessions\u00a0is calling for an end to the Diversity Visa Lottery, the program that allowed a New York City, New York terror suspect to enter the United States.
