Anthony Levandowski is out after refusing to follow court orders to hand over documents related to the technology Google\u2019s parent company says he stole.<\/p>\n<div class=\"article__text text js-mediator-article\">\n<div class=\"arcticle__read-more read-more\"><\/div>\n<p>Uber Technologies, Inc. fired Levandowski on May 26, according to the <a href=\"http:\/\/fingfx.thomsonreuters.com\/gfx\/reuterscom\/1\/28\/28\/Uber%20termination%20letter.pdf\">termination letter<\/a> filed Tuesday in the US District Court for the Northern District of California, Reuters <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-uber-alphabet-lawsuit-idUSKBN18Q2CW\">reported<\/a>. The New York Times had earlier <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2017\/05\/30\/technology\/uber-anthony-levandowski.html\">reported<\/a> that an email circulating between Uber employees on Tuesday confirmed the ouster.<\/p>\n<p>At the heart of the firing is the ongoing court battle between Uber and Google parent Alphabet, Inc.&#8217;s self-driving product, Waymo, where Levandowski used to work and, according to Alphabet\u2019s lawsuit, stole trade secrets and 14,000 documents he then brought to Uber.<\/p>\n<p>Levandowski was terminated for cause, with Uber finding him in breach of his representation for the company, after he asserted his Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination instead of complying with the US district court\u2019s May 11 order that he provide documents.<\/p>\n<p>Uber had previously demanded that Levandowski comply with the company\u2019s investigation, and he had not, according to the company\u2019s letter.<\/p>\n<p>Eric Meyhofer, who replaced Levandowski as chief of Uber\u2019s Advanced Technologies Group last month, will stay on in the leadership position, according to Reuters.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Via <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rt.com\/usa\/390244-uber-fires-self-driving-chief-waymo\/?utm_source=rss&amp;utm_medium=rss&amp;utm_campaign=RSS\">RT<\/a>.
