{"id":307843,"date":"2017-05-12T11:22:38","date_gmt":"2017-05-12T10:22:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/newswire\/once-again-on-race-and-the-2016-elections\/"},"modified":"2017-05-12T11:22:38","modified_gmt":"2017-05-12T10:22:38","slug":"once-again-on-race-and-the-2016-elections","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/newswire\/once-again-on-race-and-the-2016-elections\/","title":{"rendered":"Once again on race and the 2016 elections"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"content\">\n<h3 class=\"nomargin\">\u00a0<\/h3>\n<h2>Once again on race and the 2016 elections<\/h2>\n<h5>\n<p>    By<br \/>\n    Eric London<br \/>\n    <br \/>12 May 2017<\/p>\n<\/h5>\n<p>The Democratic Party and its official and semi-official \u201cleft-wing\u201d supporters are once again claiming that Donald Trump was elected president because white workers are racist.<\/p>\n<p>The <em>Nation\u2019s<\/em> Sean McElwee and Jason McDaniel take up the baton this time in an article titled \u201cEconomic Anxiety Didn\u2019t Make People Vote Trump, Racism Did.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The authors claim that recently released data from the American National Election Survey (ANES) definitively proves that whites were motivated by racism to support Trump.<\/p>\n<p>McElwee and McDaniel pour scorn on the \u201cdubious nature of 2016 analyses that emphasize white economic anxiety.\u201d They even claim workers\u2019 racism is the cause for their sense of economic insecurity: \u201camong a typical white person, anti-black and anti-immigrant attitudes feed negative perceptions of personal economic hardship.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Such stupid\u2014and yes, racist\u2014conclusions could only be reached through a toxic mixture of bankrupt politics and anti-scientific manipulation of the supposed data.<\/p>\n<p>McElwee and McDaniel know what they want the data to say and they set about to prove it. They test workers\u2019 racism through a pseudo-scientific \u201cracial resentment scale\u201d based on several provocative questions whose aim is to solicit a racist response, like: \u201cAgree or disagree: Irish, Italian, Jewish and many other minorities overcame prejudice and worked their way up.
