On Monday, Peter Navarro, Trump\u2019s economic adviser, described the US\u2019s trade deficit with Germany as a \u201cserious matter\u201d and as \u201cone of the most difficult issues\u201d for American trade policy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think that it would be useful to have candid discussions with Germany about ways that we could possibly get that deficit reduced outside the boundaries and restrictions that they claim that they are under,\u201d Navarro said in Washington.<\/p>\n<p> Germany has responded to Washington\u2019s increasingly belligerent rhetoric by attempting to bind Europe together under its leadership and prepare \u201cfor a trade war with the United States,\u201d as the <em>S\u00fcddeutsche Zeitung<\/em> newspaper put it.<\/p>\n<p> The European powers are seeking to exploit Trump\u2019s cancellation of the Trans-Pacific Partnership to expand economically into Asian markets.
