Former prime minister David Cameron offered inexplicable pay rises to his special advisers mere months before they were given post-Brexit \u2018golden handshakes.\u2019<\/p>\n
According to figures from Civil Service World, Cameron lifted seven of his staff\u2019s incomes by as much as \u00a318,000 (US$23,600) \u2013 a 24 percent rise.<\/p>\n
Liberal Democrat leader Tim Farron said the ex-PM should be \u201cashamed\u201d<\/em> of hiking the pay of his workers, also known as \u2018Spads,\u2019 when public sector pay increases have been capped at 1 percent.<\/p>\n \u201cCameron talked a lot about cutting the cost of politics over the last few years. This shows how utter empty this rhetoric was,\u201d<\/em> Farron told the press.<\/p>\n \u201cThis is triple whammy \u2013 honors to cronies and a whacking great pay rise and then a bumped up severance package. Alongside his enhanced redundancy pay, Atashzai saw his salary grow from under \u00a358,200 in 2014 to \u00a372,000 in 2015.<\/p>\n Atashzai was also among Cameron\u2019s resignation honors list and was awarded an MBE for his services. Sugg was also honored with a life peerage when her boss left Number 10.<\/p>\n \u201cIt would seem hypocrisy knows no bounds from a prime minister who preached pay restraint and austerity to public servants and the public, whilst at the same time awarding double-digit pay rises to his special advisers,\u201d<\/em> said senior civil servants union FDA general secretary Dave Penman.<\/p>\n His Public and Commercial Services Union colleague Mark Serwotka said decent pay rises should apply to all civil servants, not just \u201cto [Cameron\u2019s] close circle of political friends.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n A Downing Street spokesman said decisions were made \u201cby the previous regime\u201d<\/em> and that Prime Minister Theresa May had no further comment to make on them.<\/p>\n But the one-time premier was not spared by Labour deputy leader Tom Watson, who accused Cameron of \u201ccronyism\u201d<\/em> and \u201cinsulting\u201d<\/em> the civil workforce enduring pay freezes under his premiership.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s uber-cronyism, it\u2019s totally unacceptable and Theresa May should claw the money back,\u201d<\/em> he said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Via RT<\/a>.
