{"id":2515,"date":"2008-02-23T20:22:11","date_gmt":"2008-02-23T20:22:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/surveillance-big-brother\/high-tech-us-border-surveillance\/2515\/"},"modified":"2008-02-23T20:22:11","modified_gmt":"2008-02-23T20:22:11","slug":"high-tech-us-border-surveillance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/surveillance-big-brother\/high-tech-us-border-surveillance\/","title":{"rendered":"High-tech US border surveillance"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana\" id=\"ctl00_ContentPlaceHolder1_lblBody\"><strong>Washington warns that the recently-developed high-tech virtual fence on the US-Mexican border is fully prepared to tackle any form of illegal crossings. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The $20 million &#8216;Project 28&#8217; features cutting-edge sensor towers and advanced mobile communications on a 45-km stretch of the southern border near Nogales, Arizona.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I have personally witnessed the value of this system, and I have spoken directly to the Border Patrol agents &#8230; who have seen it produce actual results, in terms of identifying and allowing the apprehension of people who were illegally smuggling across the border,&#8221; said Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff.<\/p>\n<p>Chertoff anticipated the high-tech surveillance equipments would finally put a stop to the highly charged political issue of immigration.<\/p>\n<p>Rep.
