{"id":2179,"date":"2008-01-12T06:14:04","date_gmt":"2008-01-12T06:14:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/breaking-news\/man-dies-after-police-taser-him\/2179\/"},"modified":"2008-01-12T06:14:04","modified_gmt":"2008-01-12T06:14:04","slug":"man-dies-after-police-taser-him","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/latest-news\/man-dies-after-police-taser-him\/","title":{"rendered":"Man dies after police Taser him"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>BY <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.miamiherald.com\/news\/breaking_news\/story\/375399.html\">DAVID OVALLE<\/a><\/p>\n<p>A man in his 20s died after a Coral Gables police officer used a Taser stun gun to subdue him Friday morning.<\/p>\n<p>He was identified Friday afternoon as Xavier Jones, 29.<\/p>\n<p>Jones had been disruptive at a party and resisted arrest, according to Miami-Dade police, whose homicide bureau is investigating the death.<\/p>\n<p>About 2 a.m., police officers responded to a call about a scuffle at University Inn Condominium, 1280 S. Alahambra Cir., near the University of Miami. The building is across the street from the university and borders on U.S. 1.<\/p>\n<p>After the man became disruptive inside the apartment, a security guard attempted to remove him from the property. The confrontation spilled outside.<\/p>\n<p>Miami-Dade police said Jones displayed &#8221;aggressive and combative behavior&#8221; so a police officer used a Taser stun gun to restrain him.<\/p>\n<p>After the discharge, Jones became unresponsive, and paramedics took him to Doctor&#8217;s Hospital in Coral Gables, where he was pronounced dead.<\/p>\n<p>The investigation by Coral Gables and Miami-Dade police closed an area of U.S. 1 between Red Road and South Alhambra Circle until 7 a.m.<\/p>\n<p>A cause of death will be determined by the Miami-Dade medical examiner&#8217;s office.<\/p>\n<p><!-- story_mapbox.comp --><!-- \/story_mapbox.comp --><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>BY DAVID OVALLE A man in his 20s died after a Coral Gables police officer used a Taser stun gun to subdue him Friday morning.
