These countries, along with the <country-region w:st=\"on\">\n<place w:st=\"on\">UK<\/place><\/country-region>, were placed in the lowest category described as \u2018endemic surveillance societies\u2019.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt\" class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt\" class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial\">The <country-region w:st=\"on\">\n<place w:st=\"on\">UK<\/place><\/country-region>\u2019s vast network of CCTV cameras, the Information Commissioner\u2019s lack of power, and plans for the \u2018most intrusive identity card scheme in the world\u2019 all contributed to the country\u2019s poor ranking.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt\" class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt\" class=\"MsoNormal\"><country-region w:st=\"on\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial\">Greece<\/span><\/country-region><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial\">, <country-region w:st=\"on\">Romania<\/country-region> and <country-region w:st=\"on\">\n<place w:st=\"on\">Canada<\/place><\/country-region> came out top in the survey by think tank Privacy International.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt\" class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt\" class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial\">For the first time, <country-region w:st=\"on\">Scotland<\/country-region> has been given its own ranking and scored significantly higher than <country-region w:st=\"on\">England<\/country-region> and <country-region w:st=\"on\">\n<place w:st=\"on\">Wales<\/place><\/country-region>. The report shows that <country-region w:st=\"on\">\n<place w:st=\"on\">Scotland<\/place><\/country-region>\u2019s identity policy avoids the mistakes of the English Government.
