Facebook is suspending user accounts that question the official narrative behind the Sandy Hook school massacre, following a warning by Connecticut State Police spokesman Lt. J. Paul Vance that \u201cmisinformation\u201d posted on social media sites could result in prosecution.<\/p>\n

An image<\/a>\u00a0posted in the aftermath of the shootings that questioned whether \u201ca clumsy 20-year-old autistic kid\u201d could have pulled off the murders of 26 people was deleted and the user\u2019s account hit with a three day suspension.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was informed the reason for this punishment was the result of a meme I had shared,\u201d writes the editor ofSecretsOfTheFed.com<\/a>. \u201cFacebook told me it \u201c\u2026violates Facebook\u2019s Statement of Rights and Responsibilities\u201d. I was further warned that \u201cIf you continue to abuse Facebook\u2019s features, your account could be permanently disabled.\u201d<\/p>\n

On Saturday,\u00a0Connecticut state police warned<\/a>\u00a0that people posting \u201cmisinformation\u201d on social media websites would be \u201cinvestigated and prosecuted.\u201d<\/p>\n

However, this threat could apply to the vast majority of the mainstream media, who in their haste to get out ahead of the story reported numerous details that soon turned out to be completely incorrect.<\/p>\n

– It was\u00a0initially reported<\/a>\u00a0that Adam Lanza\u2019s mother, the first victim of the rampage, was a teacher at the school, which was not true.<\/p>\n

– It was\u00a0initially reported<\/a>\u00a0that Lanza had also killed his father, which was not true.<\/p>\n

– It was\u00a0initially reported<\/a>\u00a0that the culprit behind the massacre was Ryan Lanza, Adam Lanza\u2019s brother, which was not true.<\/p>\n

– Initial reports that a\u00a0\u201csecond gunman\u201d\u00a0<\/a>arrested in the woods behind the school was involved in the massacre were later dropped without explanation.<\/p>\n

Given that most of the \u201cmisinformation\u201d about the shooting came from corporate media sources, the fact that Facebook is punishing users for asking questions about the proper sequence of events \u2014 essentially labeling such activity a thought crime \u2014 is a worrying development.<\/p>\n

As we have previously highlighted<\/a>, Facebook occasionally deletes images and posts that it claims violate \u201cFacebook\u2019s Statement of Rights and Responsibilities,\u201d yet constitute little more than political conjecture or a healthy skepticism of official narratives on current events.<\/p>\n

In September 2011, Infowars reporter Darrin McBreen was told by Facebook staff\u00a0not to voice his political opinion<\/a>\u00a0on the social networking website.<\/p>\n

Responding to comments McBreen had made about off-grid preppers being treated as criminals, the \u201cFacebook Team\u201d wrote, \u201cBe careful making about making political statements on facebook,\u201d adding, \u201cFacebook is about building relationships not a platform for your political viewpoint. Don\u2019t antagonize your base. Be careful and congnizat (sic) of what you are preaching.\u201d<\/p>\n
