On 17 September 2014, Paul Heintz of Vermont\u2019s weekly newspaper <i>Seven Days<\/i>, headlined,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sevendaysvt.com\/vermont\/run-bernie-run-in-iowa-sanders-tests-the-presidential-waters\/Content?oid=2441529\"><span class=\"s2\">&#8220;&#8216;Run, Bernie, Run&#8217;:\u00a0In Iowa, Sanders Tests the Presidential Waters,\u201d<\/span><\/a>\u00a0and opened: &#8220;The crowd went wild Saturday afternoon [13 Sep.] as Bernie Sanders ascended a makeshift plywood stage at the Sauk County Fairgrounds\u00a0in Baraboo, Wisconsin. \u2026 &#8216;Run, Bernie, run! Run, Bernie, run!\u2019\u201d Heintz noted that, later on the same day, in Iowa, Sanders addressed students at Dubuque&#8217;s Clarke University. Then, the next day, on Sunday morning, he was at Waterloo Iowa\u2019s Center for the Arts.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Already, he had tested the campaign waters in Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, New Hampshire, and other states, and received enthusiastic receptions everywhere, even in the deep South where Democrats rarely win. Heintz spoke to David Yepsen, a veteran political reporter in Iowa, who said, \u201cI think he\u2019ll run.\u201d That was as of 17 September 2014.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Then, on 30 April 2015, in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=R4qPjx3bX8I\"><span class=\"s2\">a terrific MSNBC interview with Ed Schultz, Sanders said that he would run,<\/span><\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=jVVP5tJDmJY\"><span class=\"s2\">he explained why<\/span><\/a>; and on May 26th, he officially kicked off his campaign, with a wildly enthusiastic event in Burlington Vermont, where his political career had started in 1981 as Mayor.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">All this while, Sanders was one of the leaders in the Senate in opposing Obama\u2019s \u2018trade\u2019 deals, and, earlier, pressing Obama to support more strongly a public option in the healthcare exchanges, and on many other matters. He has hardly been an inactive Senator, such as Hillary Clinton was. Instead, he was always one of the leaders of the Senate\u2019s progressives.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">How much coverage were America\u2019s supposedly \u2018progressive\u2019 magazines providing of this? Nothing before he started making noises about a possible Presidential run, and little even after that.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Here are the \u201cSanders\u201d search-results as of 11 May 2015, at the magazines that claim to be \u2018progressive\u2019 \u2013 and this is everything, going back not only before 2015, but before 2014: it\u2019s everything at every period. They ignored him up through 2013, and covered him little during 2014 and 2015, while he has been campaigning nationally.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">\u2013\u2013<\/span><\/p>\n<p these were the 5 \u2018progressive\u2019 national political magazines, and so no wonder, then, why it was that as of his official kick-off date of 26 May 2015, he was so little known to the American public that he didn\u2019t even show up at all in\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.realclearpolitics.com\/epolls\/latest_polls\/president\/\"><span class=\"s2\">the 2016 Presidential polls.<\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">He was an unknown even though he has more political experience than either of the other two Senate progressives, and even though he has been campaigning, already, for almost a year.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">These five magazines are the only five national progressive political magazines; and, so, they\u2019re the ones that should have been devoting major attention to him, both in the Senate and on the prospective campaign trail, yet only one actually did, and even that one started on 26 Jan. 2015, months after he had started &#8220;testing the waters.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Here is\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/nightly-news\/video\/nightly-news-full-broadcast-with-lester-holt-april12-426999875661\"><span class=\"s2\">NBC Nightly News on 12 April 2015<\/span><\/a>, the day that Hillary Clinton announced her candidacy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">None of the network national news shows covered the Sanders 26 May 2015 kick-off event, even though NBC News did have a van there.
