{"id":147518,"date":"2015-04-29T18:25:37","date_gmt":"2015-04-29T18:25:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/?p=147518"},"modified":"2015-04-29T18:29:32","modified_gmt":"2015-04-29T18:29:32","slug":"criminalisation-of-free-speech-and-double-standards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/politics\/criminalisation-of-free-speech-and-double-standards\/","title":{"rendered":"Criminalisation of Free Speech and Double Standards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In what appears to be another attempt to suppress criticism of Israel, the Canadian government has signed a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.international.gc.ca\/media\/aff\/news-communiques\/2015\/01\/18b-3.aspx?lang=eng&amp;_ga=1.100408923.417187176.1422711894\" target=\"_blank\">Memorandum of Understanding<\/a> with Israel which makes the claim that \u201cthe selective targeting of Israel is the new face of anti-Semitism\u201d and declares that Canada will oppose those who support the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement.<\/p>\n<p>Shortly after the MOU was signed, Public Safety Minister Steven Blaney announced to the UN General Assembly that the Canadian government would exercise \u201czero tolerance\u201d toward \u201call forms of discrimination including rhetoric towards Israel, and attempts to delegitimise Israel such as the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement.\u201d<sup><a id=\"identifier_0_58129\" class=\"footnote-link footnote-identifier-link\" title=\"From an Independent Jewish Voices-Canada (IJV) statement.\" href=\"http:\/\/dissidentvoice.org\/2015\/04\/criminalisation-of-free-speech-and-double-standards\/#footnote_0_58129\">1<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n<div style=\"float: left; width: 150px; margin-bottom: 5px; padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 5px;\"><center><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn3.volusion.com\/xfg5p.pfrs6\/v\/vspfiles\/photos\/1241-1.jpg?1341932103\" alt=\"\" \/>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.toolsforfreedom.com\/False-Rights-vs-True-Rights-p\/1241.htm\" target=\"_blank\">False Rights vs. True Rights &#8211; DVD<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><\/center><\/div>\n<p>Despite the embarrassing and shameful sight of their political leaders continually rushing to fawn and genuflect at the feet of the moneyed Jewish lobby, there has been a growing international coalition of principled individuals \u2013 such as the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bdsmovement.net\/\">BDS movement<\/a> \u2013 who are opposed not only to Israel\u2019s belligerent disregard for international law and human rights, but also to the chutzpah of its undisguised subversion of the democratic process in countries that are supposedly allies. In response to this audacious threat of people\u2019s opposition to political corruption that precludes respect for human rights and justice, Israel and its political allies have chosen to respond with legislation \u2013 <a href=\"http:\/\/rabble.ca\/category\/tags\/bill-c-51\" target=\"_blank\">Bill C-51<\/a> for example \u2013 designed to intimidate and suppress such opposition by either threatening to use or by actually using legal punishments.
