{"id":145361,"date":"2015-04-02T20:29:55","date_gmt":"2015-04-02T20:29:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/?p=145361"},"modified":"2015-04-02T20:29:55","modified_gmt":"2015-04-02T20:29:55","slug":"how-the-1-is-rewiring-brains-and-future-generations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/latest-news\/how-the-1-is-rewiring-brains-and-future-generations\/","title":{"rendered":"How the 1% Is Rewiring Brains and Future Generations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As usual, Republicans are doing everything in their power to help the 1% get even richer.<\/p>\n<p>Republicans on the House Ways and Means Committee, led by Paul Ryan, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/blogs\/wonkblog\/wp\/2015\/04\/01\/republicans-have-a-new-plan-to-cut-taxes-for-the-top-2-percent\/\" target=\"_blank\">have voted to eliminate the estate tax<\/a> entirely.<\/p>\n<p>The federal estate tax is a tax on property and assets that are passed down from a deceased individual to their heirs (like how Paris Hilton gets most of her money).<\/p>\n<p><em><a href=\"http:\/\/truth-out.org\/news\/item\/13252-thom-hartmann-on-truthout\" target=\"_blank\">See more news and opinion from Thom Hartmann at Truthout here.<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p>The estate tax has brought in crucial revenue for our government for nearly 100 years, and Republicans have been opposed to it for nearly that long too.<\/p>\n<p>They like to argue that the tax is too large, and that it&#8217;s too burdensome for small businesses and family-owned farms.<\/p>\n<p>But, the facts say otherwise.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbpp.org\/cms\/?fa=view&amp;id=2655\" target=\"_blank\">According to the Center for Budget and Policy Priorities<\/a>, (CBPP) only two out of every 1,000 estates will owe federal estate tax in 2015. Only two.<\/p>\n<p>In other words, 99.8 percent of estates in the US owe no estate tax at all.<\/p>\n<p>Similarly, as the CBPP points out, &#8220;taxable estates generally pay less than one-sixth of their value in tax.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>So far, this tax doesn&#8217;t seem too &#8220;burdensome&#8221; at all.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/truth-out.org\/archive\/opinion\/item\/30014-how-the-1-is-rewiring-brains-and-future-generations\" target=\"_blank\">Read more<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As usual, Republicans are doing everything in their power to help the 1% get even richer.
