{"id":141410,"date":"2014-11-04T15:40:46","date_gmt":"2014-11-04T15:40:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/?p=141410"},"modified":"2014-11-04T15:41:13","modified_gmt":"2014-11-04T15:41:13","slug":"double-government-secret-gets","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/politics\/double-government-secret-gets\/","title":{"rendered":"The \u201cDouble Government\u201d Secret Gets Out"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>You know something is going on when the cautious\u00a0<em>Boston Globe\u00a0<\/em>publishes not one, but two, pieces dealing with the \u201cdouble government.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This cryptic phrase encapsulates a serious claim about the American body politic: That\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/whowhatwhy.com\/2014\/10\/05\/the-hidden-government-group-linking-jfk-watergate-iran-contra-and-911\/\" target=\"_blank\">a permanent and largely unaccountable bureaucracy<\/a>\u00a0keeps on doing what it wants to do, no matter who the voters elect to the White House.<\/p>\n<p>Both of the\u00a0<em>Globe<\/em>\u00a0articles refer to \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/National-Security-Government-Michael-Glennon\/dp\/0190206446\" target=\"_blank\">National Security and Double Government<\/a>,\u201d a book by Michael J. Glennon, professor of international law at Tufts University. From the descriptions of its contents (we haven\u2019t read the book yet, but we will\u2013and perhaps excerpt), the author is talking, with due academic caution, about an out-of-control security\/military apparatus.<\/p>\n<p>The fact that the\u00a0<em>Globe\u00a0<\/em>thinks this book is important enough to warrant not one but two analytical pieces is significant, because Boston was the scene of the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/whowhatwhy.com\/2013\/04\/19\/the-marathon-bombing-what-the-media-didnt-warn-you-about\/\" target=\"_blank\">mysterious Boston Marathon Bombing<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In the aftermath of that tragedy, the national security apparatus and its allies in the media, academia and corporate America (including, significantly, the\u00a0<em>Globe\u00a0<\/em>itself) rushed to discourage us from looking deeper at what happened\u2013while at the same time the nat-sec folks used the event to further expand their influence at the expense of civil liberties.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Secret Government<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>One of the G<em>lobe\u2019s\u00a0<\/em>pieces was a\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bostonglobe.com\/arts\/books\/2014\/10\/18\/review-national-security-and-double-government-michael-glennon\/tUhBBdSj8s0WW1HoWUf20M\/story.html\" target=\"_blank\">highly favorable review\u00a0<\/a>of Dr. Glennon\u2019s book by former Republican Congressman\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mickey_Edwards\" target=\"_blank\">Mickey Edwards<\/a>.
