{"id":137952,"date":"2014-08-21T20:13:21","date_gmt":"2014-08-21T20:13:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/?p=137952"},"modified":"2014-08-22T00:27:14","modified_gmt":"2014-08-22T00:27:14","slug":"charity-calls-suspension-arms-sales-israel-palestine","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/latest-news\/charity-calls-suspension-arms-sales-israel-palestine\/","title":{"rendered":"Charity Calls For Suspension Of Arms Sales To Israel And Palestine"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"field field--name-body field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden\">\n<div class=\"field__items\">\n<div class=\"field__item even\">\n<p><em><a href=\"http:\/\/rinf.com\">RINF Alternative News<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Today the charity Oxfam has called for the immediate suspension of arms and ammunition sales to Israel and Palestine, in an effort to shield civilians.<\/p>\n<p>In a news release the charity\u00a0said:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The widespread killing of civilians and destruction of civilian infrastructure over the past six weeks is the worst it has seen in 20 years of working in Gaza.\u00a0<strong>More than 1,500 civilians in Gaza &#8211; including more than 480 children &#8211; and three civilians in Israel have been killed<\/strong>\u00a0so far, and it is estimated that billions of dollars of damage has been caused to vital water, sanitation, health services and homes in Gaza.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Nishant Pandey, head of Oxfam in the Occupied Palestinian Territory and Israel, said:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Now more than ever, the international community should exert maximum diplomatic pressure, including suspending arms and ammunitions transfers, to show that the world\u00a0<strong>will not tolerate the violence and civilian suffering for a moment longer.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This humanitarian crisis is being fuelled by weapons. Suspending arms and ammunition transfers is vital to ensure no more civilians are harmed.\u00a0<strong>This conflict cannot be resolved militarily.
