{"id":132522,"date":"2014-07-22T18:35:09","date_gmt":"2014-07-22T18:35:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/?p=132522"},"modified":"2014-07-22T18:35:09","modified_gmt":"2014-07-22T18:35:09","slug":"freedom-industries-small-price-pay-poisoning-west-virginia-water","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/breaking-news\/freedom-industries-small-price-pay-poisoning-west-virginia-water\/","title":{"rendered":"For Freedom Industries, a Small Price to Pay for Poisoning West Virginia Water"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"color: #373737;\">Last week, Freedom Industries \u2013 the now bankrupt company that was responsible for a chemical spill that tainted the drinking water of hundreds of thousands of West Virginians \u2013 learned that there will be a small price to pay for its negligence.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #373737;\">Kevin Conlon\u00a0<a style=\"color: #1982d1;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2014\/07\/18\/us\/west-virginia-chemical-spill-settlement\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\">reports<\/a>\u00a0for\u00a0CNN:<\/p>\n<blockquote style=\"color: #373737;\"><p>A settlement was reached Friday with the company at the center of a January<a style=\"color: #1982d1;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2014\/03\/28\/health\/west-virginia-water\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\">\u00a0chemical leak\u00a0<\/a>that contaminated the water supply for 300,000 West Virginians, according to an attorney for the plaintiffs.<\/p>\n<p>Freedom Industries Inc. would transfer $2.9 million into a trust fund that will be used \u201cfor the greater good,\u201d according to Anthony Majestro, one of the attorneys in the class-action lawsuit.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThings like chemical testing and medical studies,\u201d said Majestro, who called the trust fund \u201ca mechanism to answer some of the things that are still unanswered.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"color: #373737;\">That works out to roughly $10 per person affected by the spill of the coal-processing chemical MCHM, or around $1.00 for each day they went without water.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #373737;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/billmoyers.com\/2014\/07\/22\/for-freedom-industries-a-small-price-to-pay-for-poisoning-west-virginia-water\/\" target=\"_blank\">Read more<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Last week, Freedom Industries \u2013 the now bankrupt company that was responsible for a chemical spill that tainted the drinking water of hundreds of thousands of West Virginians \u2013 learned that there will be a small price to pay for its negligence.
