HEALTH workers will walk out across England tomorrow in the fight against the Con-Dem coalition\u2019s vicious attack on the NHS.<\/p>\n
People are set to lobby the NHS Confederation meeting in Liverpool and protest outside the Department of Health in London against ministers\u2019 assault on their pay.<\/p>\n
Health union Unison called on all healthcare workers, including nurses, paramedics, porters, cleaners, cooks, therapists and healthcare assistants to rally outside hospitals and workplaces.<\/p>\n
The government\u2019s current offer includes a 1 per cent rise for some workers but leaves 60 per cent of NHS with nothing.<\/p>\n
The Unite union\u2019s 100,000 NHS members \u201cstrongly rejected\u201d the deal, with ministers offering \u201cinsult after insult.\u201d<\/p>\n
Unite said a \u201cconcerted campaign\u201d by 1.3 million NHS staff, their unions including Unison and GMB and professional organisations is needed to force the government to negotiate.<\/p>\n
If necessary the fight will go on until next year\u2019s general election, putting the \u201cNHS in meltdown\u201d centre stage.<\/p>\n
Unite head of health Rachael Maskell said: \u201cIt is time that Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt sat down with the unions and listened to our proposals for fair pay for the biggest workforce in this country.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf the government fails to address the problems of this year\u2019s controversial 1 per cent \u2018divide and rule\u2019 pay offer, Unite will have no choice but to escalate its campaign.\u201d<\/p>\n
