Eight lawmakers from both the Democratic and Republican parties have pressured Holder to explain about Aaron Swartz\u00e2\u201e\u00a2s \u00c5\u201ctragic\u201d death last year and the \u00c5\u201caggressive\u201d prosecution\u201d against him by the Department of Justice.<\/p>\n
“We regret that the information your Department has provided to date has not been satisfactory — among other things, it painted a picture of prosecutors unwilling or unable to weigh what charges to pursue against a defendant, something which you have instructed federal prosecutors is ‘among [their] most fundamental duties,\u201d they wrote in a letter which was sent to US Attorney General a few days ago. <\/p>\n
Officials say the 26-year-old activist committed suicide last year in his apartment in New York City, on January 11 while he was awaiting trial due to downloading academic journal articles in a computer at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. <\/p>\n
The internet activist was facing a statutory maximum of 50 years in prison for allegedly violating the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act. <\/p>\n
The American blogger was a fierce opponent of Obama\u00e2\u201e\u00a2s controversial \u00c5\u201ckill list\u201d and other policies. <\/p>\n
The US president has reportedly been personally approving the names of those who are killed in US drone attacks in several Muslim countries including in Afghanistan Pakistan, and Yemen. <\/p>\n
