Regional police claim Nato, Afghan and allied special forces killed over three dozen insurgent fighters in separate overnight operations in northern and eastern Afghanistan.
Two regional police officials said Nato special forces in three helicopters swarmed in on insurgents who had attacked a volunteer security force in the Zar Khrid area, near the northern town of Kunduz.
The officials said 31 insurgents were killed.
In a separate incident, police chief Khial Baz Sherzai of the southeastern Ghazni province said Nato and Afghan forces stormed into three neighbouring villages in the Qarabagh district, killing 14 militants and injuring more than 10 others.
The officials said no civilians or allied forces were injured in either operation.
