“Earth shattering! Thumpin’ along the 11 in #NB” @MilesHowe tweeted this morning along with this picture.A journalist who has been covering the ongoing resistance to fracking led by Elsipogtog and allies in New Brunswick was arrested on Tuesday.
This marks the third arrest of Media Co-op journalist Miles Howe while covering the protests, and in a media release the solidarity cooperative writes that “It appears he was specifically targeted.”
As his Twitter feed shows, Howe was documenting “thumpers”–trucks owned by gas and oil exploration company SWN Resources that conduct seismic testing for gas deposits–and “protectors,” those expressing their resistance to the seismic testing.
CTV Atlantic News reports that on Friday, the company was granted a court injunction that “bans protesters from coming within 20 meters of any shale gas testing equipment.”
But in a video uploaded to YouTube by Howe on Monday, police officers read the injunction which states that protesters are only prevented from impeding the company’s activities.
According to Acadie Nouvelle, Howe was arrested for not respecting the order.
