UK min. warns of coalition collapse

A senior British Liberal Democrat has warned their power-sharing deal with the Conservatives could end before the 2015 general election.

Business Secretary Vince Cable said at the Independent fringe meeting of Lib Dems annual party conference in Glasgow that it is œcertainly possible” for the coalition to break down, while suggesting he himself could resign if the government crosses his personal œred lines”.

Cable described Conservatives™ show of hostility to benefits claimants and immigrants this year as œdog-whistle politics”, repeating his scathing attack on the party during his speech at the conference on Monday.

œIt™s happened in the last few months and that needed a political response,” Cable said.

œWe will talk about fairness, that™s the language we will be using about tax and corporate reform. It™s about the things we have stopped the Tories doing,” he added, warning Lib Dems should keep their distance from both Conservatives and Labour before the 2015 poll.
