Saudi fishing boats seized in Iran waters

The Iranian coast guard has seized two Saudi fishing boats that intruded into Iran’s territorial waters in the Persian Gulf.

Qalandar Lashkari, the commander of the Bushehr province coast guard, told the Fars News Agency on Tuesday that the Iranian coast guard had seized two vessels that were not flying flags when sighted.

Lashkari stated that the boats were from Saudi Arabia and crossed into Iranian waters to fish.

He said their captains and crew members, all of them Indian nationals, were arrested.

The Iranian coast guard also confiscated the two vessels’ catch of 500 kilograms of fish, Lashkari added.

Last week, forces of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) second naval zone seized another Saudi vessel and its four crew members after it illegally entered Iranian waters.

The vessel and its four-man crew were later released.
