Tens of thousands of people in North England have signed a petition demanding to break away from England and join Scotland.
The petition, #TakeUsWithYouScotland, which appears on the website Change.org says ‘the northerners’ have more bonds with Scotland than with “the ideologies of the London-centric south.”
“The deliberations in Westminster are becoming increasingly irrelevant to the north of England. The northern cities feel far greater affinity with their Scottish counterparts such as Glasgow and Edinburgh than with the ideologies of the London-centric south,” it reads.
Now William Spring, a political commentator, in London believes, “Those who have drafted the petition are clearly anxious to create some sort of momentum for secession of Northern regions of England to Scotland and it’s not surprising that people involved in this project are actually from the SNP (Scottish National Party). When you have a cause such as Scottish independence, that will bring a lot of associated issues along.”
