At least four Syrian civilians have been killed and dozens more injured as militants fighting against the government fired mortar shells at a number of residential areas in the Damascus countryside.

According to Syriaâ„¢s official news agency, SANA, two women and an 8-year-old child were killed and 13 others were injured after mortars fired by foreign-backed militants landed in Damascus suburb of Jaramana on Wednesday.

A fourth civilian was killed in a mortar attack in al-Dakhaniyeh area.

Eleven civilians, including 7 children, were also injured in a terrorist mortar attack in al-Moadamiyeh town in Damascus countryside.

Takfiri militants also fired two mortar rounds at the Police Hospital in the Damascus suburb of Harasta, causing only material damage.

Meanwhile, Syrian troops have clashed with militants in several Damascus suburbs, including the villages of Jouber, Erbin and Zamalka, killing many of them.

Scores of militants, among them foreign nationals, were also killed during security operations in the southern city of Dara’a.

Syria has been gripped by deadly unrest since 2011. According to reports, the Western powers and their regional allies — especially Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey — are supporting the militants operating inside Syria.

According to the United Nations, more than 100,000 people have been killed and millions of others displaced due to the violence.
