Kashmiri man may be world's oldest

A man from Kashmir, reported to be at the age of 141, may enter Guinness World Records as the world’s oldest living person, Press TV has reported.

Feroz-ud-Din Mir is the man, who has offered a government-issued birth certificate which demonstrates that he was born on 10 March, 1872.

Guinness World Records officials are reportedly investigating the truth of the old manâ„¢s claims.

If the report is proven, Mir would be 26 years older than Japanese woman Misao Okawa, who currently holds the record for world’s oldest living person.

Mir will also precede Jeanne Calment, the French oldest person to have ever lived. She died at the age of 122.

The former fruit and nut trader, is now living with his wife who is 65 years younger than him, said the old man in speaking to Press TV in his house in Bijhama village, Baramulla district of Kashmir.

According to the report, he has an active mind and able to walk, although with some support. His eyesight has almost faded, but he is still able to identify his family members.

Till the beginning of the 19th century Mir lived in Pakistan, where he married to a Punjabi girl in 1890. After the death of his first wife Mir moved to India.

“There were no boundaries between India and Pakistan at that time. It was easy to go to Muzaffarbad than to Srinagar. I used to work with a business family in Karachi who would buy nuts from me. I would take nuts from Kashmir which was very famous in Karachi,” Mir said.
