The tone and spirit of P5+1 New York meeting, which focused on Iran™s nuclear energy program, was œvery good”, British Foreign Secretary William Hague says.
After the meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany, Hague said in a statement emailed to reporters that, “the tone and spirit of the meeting we’ve had has been very good”.
The British Foreign Secretary said the session was œa big improvement on the tone and spirit of previous meetings on this issue”, adding that he pays œtribute to minister Zarif for that”.
“We’ve all established good working relations with him during this week in New York and this meeting was a reflection of that. We have all talked about the importance of reaching a peaceful and negotiated solution on this issue, and our commitment to seek to do that,” Hague said.
US Secretary of State John Kerry also echoed his British counterpart, saying the talks were œconstructive”.
“All of us were pleased that the foreign minister [Zarif] came today and that he did put some possibilities on the table,” Kerry told the reporters.
The Iranian foreign minister also called the talks “very constructive” and “very substantive” and said all sanctions against Iran have to be lifted in the final stage of talks.
“We hope to be able to make progress to solve this issue in a timely fashion,” Zarif said.
The next round of talks on the issue will continue on October 15 and 16 in Geneva, Switzerland.
