American anti-war activist and radio host Don DeBar says a possible US attack on Syria is illegal under both international and US law.
Å“Let me proceed from the fact of course that any military strike by the United States on Syria is illegal under both international and American law,” said DeBar in a phone interview with Press TV on Sunday.
Å“[However,] the fact that itâ„¢s illegal of course doesnâ„¢t appear to be a matter of concern to the American government,” DeBar added.
While the administration of President Obama has admitted that it lacks Å“irrefutable, beyond-a-reasonable-doubt evidence” for its claims that the Syrian government used chemical weapons in an attack last month, key members of the Obama administration continue their lobbying efforts to muster support for the White Houseâ„¢s war plans.
Following Obamaâ„¢s failure to persuade foreign leaders at the Group of 20 summit in Russia to back military strikes against Syria, US Secretary of State John Kerry is now in Europe trying to rally support for a US-led attack on the Arab country.
At a news conference on Friday, the final day of the G-20 summit in St. Petersburg, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that his country would help the Syrian government by supplying weapons and humanitarian aid to the Middle Eastern country in the event of a foreign military intervention.
Meanwhile, recent polls have shown that there is a growing opposition to Washingtonâ„¢s plans for military strikes against Syria within Americaâ„¢s war-weary public.
