Ascension Meditation and Healing<\/span><\/em> is a spiritual practice developed by Richard C. Cook and Karen Tintle-Cook of Roanoke, VA, USA, based on the world\u2019s spiritual teachings and several cosmic sources. The practice derives its specific content and its immediacy from the teachings and direct transmission of tapas shakti<\/em> from Indian guru Sri Shivabalayogi. <\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n \n <\/p>\n The practice consists of daily meditation and other spiritual exercises. The practice is as follows: sitting comfortably with eyes closed and the body relaxed, offer a prayer for a good meditation to whatever form of the Divine you choose. Begin and end each meditation by chanting “OM” three times. Then tense every muscle in the body as you inhale, including clenching of the fists. Release all tension through two sharp exhalations, and repeat three to six times. Next, become aware of the rise and fall of the breath in the torso. Once this awareness is established, begin to repeat mentally a two-syllable name of the Divine: examples are Abba (father), Amma (mother), Jesus, Buddha, Krishna, Kali, etc. Enunciate each syllable, as though chanting. Gradually allow the inner attention to rise until you are softly gazing at the point between the eyebrows. (If Sri Shivabalayogi\u2019s vibhuti is available, it may be applied to that point to aid concentration.) If attention wanders, bring it back to the mental repetition and inner gazing. If, during the meditation, you wish to let go of the mental repetition and simply focus on the point between the eyebrows, that is all right. Using a timer, do this morning, mid-day, and night for at least 20 minutes each time. Later, the time may be increased to up to two-three hours a day. At the end of the meditation, write down any thoughts that came to mind on an index card. The card may then be burnt or thrown away. Then, as you go about the business of the day, repeat the divine name or any mantra that comes through meditation. Daily readings are recommended, such as Around the Year with Emmet Fox, A Book of Days <\/em>by Carla Rueckert, the New Testament, <\/em>or the Bhagavad Gita. <\/em>Making or listening to positive music is also very helpful. <\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n The three stages of practice are to build a strong positive personality, make this personality passive to the Divine, and eventually destroy the ego. Association with a group and regular contact with a teacher generally aid progress. In the words of A Course in Miracles, <\/em>one should strive to make daily life a \u201chappy dream,\u201d so that in time real knowledge may arise.
