An opinion poll shows one in three Germans is calling for fresh elections, as Chancellor Angela Merkel has yet to form a coalition government.<\/p>\n
The survey released by TNS Infratest on Thursday showed 33 percent of those who polled believed that the best way forward should be to scrap the results from last month\u00e2\u201e\u00a2s general elections and instead hold a fresh vote.<\/p>\n
When looking at those aged 30-44, the number of those supporting a re-vote rose to 40 percent.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, there was a distinct difference in the views of various political party supporters.<\/p>\n
Of those who belonged to the Left Party, which became the country\u00e2\u201e\u00a2s third largest party in the election, a majority, 57 percent, would like to have fresh elections.<\/p>\n
Among those supporting Merkel\u00e2\u201e\u00a2s Christian Democrats, 26 percent wanted to call for a new vote and among Social Democratic supporters 27 percent wished to vote again.<\/p>\n
The poll came as Merkel has yet to find a coalition partner to form a government despite having held talks with her two defeated center-left rivals, the Social Democrats and the Green Party.<\/p>\n
Some analysts say that coalition discussions could drag on into next year.<\/p>\n
Merkel was forced to seek for a new ally after her Christian Democratic party fell short of an absolute majority needed to rule alone. In addition, her previous coalition partner, the Free Democrats (FDP) was ousted out of parliament after not receiving the five percent support required to enter parliament.<\/p>\n
The general elections were held in Europe\u00e2\u201e\u00a2s biggest economy on September 22 to determine the 630 members of the 18th Bundestag, the country\u00e2\u201e\u00a2s main federal legislative house.<\/p>\n
Merkel\u00e2\u201e\u00a2s CDU together with her sister party, the Christian Social Union, received 311 seats in the new parliament.<\/p>\n
The Social Democrats gained 192 seats and the Left Party (Die Linke) received 64 seats, while the Greens were given 63 seats.<\/p>\n
