{"id":7142,"date":"2010-07-27T12:35:56","date_gmt":"2010-07-27T11:35:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/?p=7142"},"modified":"2014-02-25T13:13:36","modified_gmt":"2014-02-25T13:13:36","slug":"uk-companies-not-utilizing-seo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/contributions\/uk-companies-not-utilizing-seo\/","title":{"rendered":"UK Companies Not Utilizing SEO"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>According to results by ThomsonLocal.com and Analytics SEO, from the UK\u2019s first audit of small business websites, almost 50% of all UK business websites are not using Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) as part of their online marketing strategy.<\/p>\n<p>Analytics SEO set out 30 criteria as key signals of SEO quality and fed them into their pioneering SEO software that was able to automatically and simultaneously perform an SEO audit of all 1,001 sites.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s a summary of the findings.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The general state of UK business websites<\/strong><br \/>\n<a class=\"highslide\" onclick=\"return vz.expand(this)\" href=\"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/seo.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/seo-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"seo\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-7141\" \/><\/a> \u00e2\u2013\u00a0 47% of all business websites have none or very basic levels of SEO<br \/>\n\u00e2\u2013\u00a0 Over 70% of companies with less than 50 employees have none or very basic levels of SEO<br \/>\n\u00e2\u2013\u00a0 Unsurprisingly larger companies tend to have better websites<br \/>\n\u00e2\u2013\u00a0 With a few exceptions, the length of time a business has been trading or the type of business has little on no bearing on the quality of its website<br \/>\n\u00e2\u2013\u00a0 12% of all business websites are not indexed in any search engine<br \/>\n\u00e2\u2013\u00a0 0.6% of business websites are under construction<br \/>\n\u00e2\u2013\u00a0 Only 3% of all business websites could be considered to have advanced levels of SEO<\/p>\n<p><strong>Technical Configuration of Websites<\/strong><br \/>\n\u00e2\u2013\u00a0 74% of businesses have no basic website analytics software for tracking site visits<br \/>\n\u00e2\u2013\u00a0 Only 2% of all businesses used advanced website analytics software<br \/>\n\u00e2\u2013\u00a0 82% have no HTML sitemap<br \/>\n\u00e2\u2013\u00a0 75% have no XML sitemap<br \/>\n\u00e2\u2013\u00a0 69% have no Robots.txt file configured<br \/>\n\u00e2\u2013\u00a0 71% have no Custom 404 page configured<\/p>\n<p><strong>Website Content<\/strong><br \/>\n\u00e2\u2013\u00a0 35% do not have unique Page Titles<br \/>\n\u00e2\u2013\u00a0 56% do not have unique Page Descriptions<br \/>\nPopularity<br \/>\n\u00e2\u2013\u00a0 The average company with less than 50 employees has 408 inbound links<br \/>\n\u00e2\u2013\u00a0 The average UK company has 6,874 inbound links<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Now more than ever consumers are turning to search engines like Google and Bing, as well as local search websites for help in finding the best local suppliers,&#8221; said Jill Pringle, Marketing Director, <a href=\"http:\/\/ThomsonLocal.com\">ThomsonLocal.com<\/a>, which commissioned the research.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Local businesses need to wake up to the fact that investing in better quality websites with original content can bring them new customers more quickly, and ensuring that the website they build is search engine friendly is essential in today\u2019s market.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.woweb.co.uk\">Woweb<\/a>, a leading UK SEO and web design company in Lancashire, said &#8220;Any business website can dramatically increase revenue with a good SEO strategy. We&#8217;re seeing companies increase turnover by upwards of \u00a350,000 per year just from having a solid search engine plan.
