{"id":64458,"date":"2013-08-31T07:10:04","date_gmt":"2013-08-31T06:10:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/breaking-news\/london-rattles-as-us-paper-holds-secrets\/64458\/"},"modified":"2013-08-31T07:10:04","modified_gmt":"2013-08-31T06:10:04","slug":"london-rattles-as-us-paper-holds-secrets","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/breaking-news\/london-rattles-as-us-paper-holds-secrets\/","title":{"rendered":"London rattles as US paper holds secrets"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>UK govt. seeks to erase Snowden&#8217;s leaked doc\u00e2\u201e\u00a2s held by New York Times<\/p>\n<div id=\"divDetailBody\">\n<p>The British government has asked the <i>New York Times<\/i> to destroy \u00c5\u201chighly classified\u201d documents leaked by US National Security Agency (NSA) whistle-blower Edward Snowden that reveal operations of two US and UK spy agencies.\n<\/p>\n<p>A senior official at the British Embassy in Washington DC made the request to Times Executive Editor Jill Abramson on Friday.\n<\/p>\n<p>Alan Rusbridger, editor of <i>The Guardian<\/i>, said the US newspaper met the government\u00e2\u201e\u00a2s demands with silence and it took British authorities &#8220;more than three weeks before anyone from the British government contacted the New York Times.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>The British paper had earlier its hard drives containing Snowden\u00e2\u201e\u00a2s material destroyed by the British intelligence officers.
