{"id":62905,"date":"2013-08-26T17:40:04","date_gmt":"2013-08-26T16:40:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/breaking-news\/us-led-soldier-killed-in-s-afghanistan\/62905\/"},"modified":"2013-08-26T17:40:04","modified_gmt":"2013-08-26T16:40:04","slug":"us-led-soldier-killed-in-s-afghanistan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/breaking-news\/us-led-soldier-killed-in-s-afghanistan\/","title":{"rendered":"US-led soldier killed in S Afghanistan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A soldier serving with the US-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan (file photo)<\/p>\n<div id=\"divDetailBody\">\n<p>A foreign soldier serving with the US-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) has been killed by an improvised explosive device (IED) blast in the troubled southern Afghanistan, the Western military alliance says.\n<\/p>\n<p>The US-led military coalition said in a statement that the serviceman died following an IED attack in the country&#8217;s troubled South on Monday.\n<\/p>\n<p>In line with the ISAF policy, the statement did not disclose the soldier&#8217;s nationality, nor did it provide further details on the exact whereabouts of the incident.\n<\/p>\n<p>The latest death bring the number of US-led soldiers killed in Afghanistan this year to at least 119.\n<\/p>\n<p>According to the latest figures released by the website <i>icasualties.org<\/i>, 3,368 foreign soldiers have been killed in Afghanistan since the US-led war began more than eleven years ago.\n<\/p>\n<p>This comes as there has been no letup in the Taliban attacks on US-led foreign troops across Afghanistan with US-led troops and Afghan forces falling prey to Taliban attacks on an almost daily basis.\n<\/p>\n<p>In late April, the Taliban announced the start of their annual offensive against US-led and Afghan forces, vowing a new wave of attacks across Afghanistan.\n<\/p>\n<p>The militant group said it would use &#8220;every possible tactic&#8221; to inflict casualties on Afghan and US-led forces. They specifically mentioned insider and bomb attacks.\n<\/p>\n<p>The increasing number of military casualties in Afghanistan has caused widespread anger in the US and other NATO member states, undermining public support for the Afghan war.\n<\/p>\n<p>The US and its allies invaded Afghanistan in 2001 as part of Washington\u00e2\u201e\u00a2s so-called war on terror.
