The 15-year-old son of CNN president Jeff Zucker was given a leadership position at New Jersey senatorial candidate Cory Booker\u2019s tech startup. The teen abruptly resigned after news broke about what critics considered an \u201cinappropriate\u201d arrangement.<\/p>\n

\n Andrew Zucker, the teenage son of CNN\u2019s president, was working an
\n odd job for children his age. He received stock options from a
\n tech startup called Waywire in exchange for serving on the
\n company\u2019s advisory board.\n<\/p>\n

\n Others on the board include Twitter Vice President Katie Stanton,
\n journalist and Open Web advocate Jeff Jarvis, AOL executive Susan
\n Lyne, and former FEC commissioner Trevor Potter. The teen,
\n however, was hired not for his experience \u2014 but for his apparent
\n insight into popular trends among children his age.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n

\n Waywire, a well-funded digital video curation site that
\n TechCrunch recently described as \u201cPinterest for video\u201d, was
\n co-founded by New Jersey senatorial candidate Cory Booker, who
\n claims he was \u201cnot involved at all\u201d<\/i> in hiring the
\n 15-year-old, CNN reports. Sarah Ross, a tech executive at the
\n company, allegedly approached the boy after hearing about how he
\n assisted his dad with tech branding issues at CNN.\n<\/p>\n

\n But critics have lashed out at the decision, claiming that the
\n arrangement is inappropriate and noting the multitude of benefits
\n that each party received. CNN last week wrote a news story on a
\n fundraiser that Oprah Winfrey was scheduled to hold for Booker,
\n which might have helped the New Jersey Democrat raise money for
\n his campaign. And with stock options in a company that
\n could soon be making billions, the 15-year-old was given a rare
\n opportunity to potentially be making quick gains just for sharing
\n his thoughts.\n<\/p>\n

\n Booker, a New Jersey Democrat known for his networking skills, is
\n hoping to fill the Senate seat that was vacated by the death of
\n Frank Lautenberg. He serves as the mayor of Newark, is an active
\n Twitter user, and is also the co-founder of Waywire, which Oprah
\n Winfrey and Executive Chairman of Google Eric E. Schmidt invested
\n in.\n<\/p>\n

\n \u201cSo throwing a bone to one of the most powerful men in media,
\n by way of corporate equity to his son who can\u2019t even drive, is
\n savvy, a mix of DC cynicism and Valley \u2018disruption\u2019 of common
\n sense,\u201d<\/i> writes Gawker\u2019s Sam Biddle. Some critics took to
\n Twitter, calling the arrangement a \u201cgross nepotism alert.\u201d<\/i>\n<\/p>\n

\n Amid questions over his qualifications, the young Zucker abruptly
\n resigned from his advisory position on Wednesday<\/span>.
\n CNN spokeswoman Allison Gollust released a statement on the
\n decision, stating that the teen stepped down \u201cin order to
\n avoid even the perception of a conflict.\u201d<\/i>\n<\/p>\n

\n The spokeswoman said Zucker\u2019s stock options were \u201ca \u2018de
\n minimus\u2019 number,\u201d<\/i> and that they will be reverted back to the
\n company.\n<\/p>\n
