Jerry Nadler&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/us.rd.yahoo.com\/dailynews\/thenation\/cm_thenation\/storytext\/4385925\/30002561\/SIG=11jeavip8;_ylt=AuTWuRItF2rfko7kfoUdBTQ__8QF\/*http:\/\/www.democrats.com\/nadler-pardon-resolution\"><span id=\"lw_1227560644_2\" class=\"yshortcuts\"><span style=\"color: #0058a6;\">H.Res. 1531<\/span><\/span><\/a>. The <span id=\"lw_1227560644_3\" class=\"yshortcuts\">New York City Congressman<\/span> and Chair of the Judiciary Subcommittee on the <span id=\"lw_1227560644_4\" class=\"yshortcuts\">Constitution<\/span>, <span id=\"lw_1227560644_5\" class=\"yshortcuts\">Civil Rights<\/span>, and <span id=\"lw_1227560644_6\" class=\"yshortcuts\">Civil Liberties&#8217; bill<\/span> demands that <span id=\"lw_1227560644_7\" class=\"yshortcuts\">President Bush<\/span> refrain from issuing any pre-emptive pardons of senior officials in his Administration during the final 90 days of office.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/us.rd.yahoo.com\/dailynews\/thenation\/cm_thenation\/storytext\/4385925\/30002561\/SIG=12dceuohs;_ylt=Akr.B2jOeo1DjEVHrvZyKzQ__8QF\/*http:\/\/www.house.gov\/apps\/list\/press\/ny08_nadler\/PreEmptPardons_112108.html\"><span id=\"lw_1227560644_8\" class=\"yshortcuts\"><span style=\"color: #0058a6;\">Resolution<\/span><\/span><\/a>, which aims to prevent undeserved pardons of officials who may have been co-conspirators in the President&#8217;s unconstitutional policies, such as torture, illegal surveillance and curtailing of <span id=\"lw_1227560644_9\" class=\"yshortcuts\">due process<\/span> for defendants, is a sensible <span id=\"lw_1227560644_10\" class=\"yshortcuts\">legal remedy<\/span> to an administration that widelyabused its power.<\/p>\n<p>Beyond preventing pre-emptive pardons, the Resolution also recommends the establishment of a special commission or <span id=\"lw_1227560644_11\" class=\"yshortcuts\">select committee<\/span> to investigate the potentially illegal activities of senior <span id=\"lw_1227560644_12\" class=\"yshortcuts\">Bush Administration officials<\/span> and also calls for the next <span id=\"lw_1227560644_13\" class=\"yshortcuts\">Attorney General<\/span> to appoint an independent counsel to investigate and prosecute any crimes.<\/p>\n<p>Nadler&#8217;s bill represents a major step towards holding <span id=\"lw_1227560644_14\" class=\"yshortcuts\">George Bush<\/span>, <span id=\"lw_1227560644_15\" class=\"yshortcuts\">Dick Cheney<\/span>, and other senior officials accountable for their crimes. <a href=\"http:\/\/us.rd.yahoo.com\/dailynews\/thenation\/cm_thenation\/storytext\/4385925\/30002561\/SIG=119hs2d90;_ylt=AoAfNz4AzyYj4XWapsSJrmY__8QF\/*http:\/\/www.democrats.com\/nadler-pardons\"><span id=\"lw_1227560644_16\" class=\"yshortcuts\"><span style=\"color: #0058a6;\">Ask your elected reps to co-sponsor and support the bill<\/span><\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Nation &#8212; Our friends at Democrats.com have launched a campaign in support of Rep.
