Miami-area sheriff\u2019s office talking to federal agencies and asking residents not to riot.<\/p>\n
Kit Daniels<\/strong> The Broward Sheriff\u2019s Office, whose jurisdiction includes a large portion of the Miami metropolitan area, released a video yesterday urging residents not to riot<\/a> in response to the Travyon Martin shooting trial which now appears to lean heavily in George Zimmerman\u2019s favor.<\/p>\n \u201cLet\u2019s give violence a rest because we could easily end up arrested,\u201d one of the performers in the video said. \u201cLaw enforcement has your back.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cLet\u2019s back up and choose not to act up and deputies are with us so no need to act tough.\u201d<\/p>\n The video\u2019s web site states that the sheriff\u2019s office Strategic Investigation Division has been communicating to not only to community leaders but also local, state, and federal agencies.<\/p>\n Could potential federal response be similar to the martial law encountered earlier this year in Boston<\/a>?<\/p>\n Miami is not taking the threats of riots lightly. The city experienced one of the worst race riots in history<\/a> after the May 1980 acquittal of four police officers in the death of African-American Arthur McDuffie.<\/p>\n Damages from that riot were estimated at $100 million.<\/p>\n The Miami metropolitan area had a population of around 3.2 million then. It\u2019s over 5.5 million<\/a> now. <\/p>\n Fox News reports that a forensic expert revealed<\/a> that the trajectory of the bullet and Martin\u2019s gunshot wound indicates Martin was on top of Zimmerman.<\/p>\n \u201cThe medical evidence is consistent with his statement,\u201d Dr. Vincent Di Maio told the court regarding Zimmerman\u2019s account of the shooting.<\/p>\n Discoveries found during Martin\u2019s autopsy, such as abrasions on his clenched hands, could also support Zimmerman\u2019s recollection of the shooting, according to USA Today<\/a>.<\/p>\n The prosecution rested their case on Friday and the defense is expected to rest their case later this week.<\/p>\n As reported by Paul Joseph Watson yesterday<\/a>, threats of mass rioting and violence in the aftermath of the Zimmerman trial are intensifying as the key terms \u201criot\u201d and \u201cZimmerman\u201d continue to bring higher and higher search results on Twitter.<\/p>\n The Miami Herald even reported<\/a> that the Miami-Dade Community Relations Board reached out to the Miami Heat, asking them to perform a \u201cunity walk\u201d to try and calm unrest.<\/p>\n \u201cThere is unrest in the south. I think it\u2019s a powder keg,\u201d Rev. Al Jackson told the Miami Herald<\/a>. \u201cPeople are looking for outlets.\u201d<\/p>\n Zimmerman, 29, pleaded not guilty to the charge of second-degree murder, which could mean life in prison if convicted.
