<\/p>\nA British man has been sentenced to more than two years in prison after he wrote on Facebook that he planned to kill 200 United States citizens earlier this year.<\/p>\n
\n Reece Elliott, a 24-year-old father-of-one, was sentenced this
\n week five months after he made remarks on the popular social
\n media site that caused residents of Warren County, Tennessee to
\n fear for their lives.

\n Elliott, a self-proclaimed Internet troll, first attracted the
\n attention of authorities after he used a phony Facebook account
\n to make posts on the tribute pages created for two teenage
\n victims of fatal car accidents.\n<\/p>\n
\n “Fucking fat cunt deserves to die<\/i>,\u201d he wrote on the page
\n of a recently passed 17-year-old girl. \u201cStupid motherfucker
\n bitch. I hope you rot in hell<\/i>,” Elliott admitted to posting
\n on another.\n<\/p>\n
\n Those messages caught the attention of a local deputy sheriff,
\n who according to the UK\u2019s Guardian newspaper then threatened to
\n have Elliott\u2019s account shut-down. The British man then retaliated
\n by making a new set of posts on one of those Facebook tribute
\n pages that left thousands in Tennessee withering in fear.\n<\/p>\n
\n “My father has three guns. I’m planning on killing him first
\n and putting his body in the dumpster<\/i>,\u201d Elliott wrote. “I’m
\n gonna kill hopefully at least 200 before I kill myself. So you
\n want to tell the deputy, I’m on my way<\/i>.”\n<\/p>\n
\n The following day, 2,908 pupils in the Warren County school
\n district \u2013 roughly half of those enrolled \u2013 were absent from
\n class. Although Elliott\u2019s warning was made from across the pond,
\n it came just weeks after 20-year-old gunman Adam Lanza opened
\n fire in a Connecticut elementary school and killed more than two
\n dozen people.\n<\/p>\n
\n “The residents of Warren County and all the people who have
\n access to the Facebook page were clearly concerned<\/i>,\u201d
\n prosecutor Gary Buckley told the South Tyneside Magistrates’
\n Court in February after Elliott surrendered to authorities. He
\n has been held in custody ever since, and this week he was
\n sentenced to spen 28 months in jail by Judge James Goss QC, who
\n said the defendant\u2019s crimes were driven by “no more than
\n self-indulgent nastiness<\/i>.\u201d\n<\/p>\n
\n “Today’s sentencing marks the end of what has been a complex
\n investigation<\/i>,\u201d added Detective Chief Inspector Ged Noble, a
\n lead investigator in the case. \u201cInvestigating reports of
\n criminal behavior on social network sites has its challenges, but
\n we have staff who are trained in navigating these systems and
\n identifying who the offenders are<\/i>.\u201d\n<\/p>\n
\n In court, Elliott called his conduct “idiotic, childish and
\n pathetic<\/i>.\u201d The Guardian reported he admitted to one count of
\n making threats to kill and eight Communications Act offenses.\n<\/p>\n
\n Elliott\u2019s sentencing comes amid a felony court case in the US
\n that has caused 19-year-old Justin Carter of Texas to have spent
\n five months so far awaiting the opportunity to fight charges
\n lobbed at him after he posted a similar threat his family says
\n was made sarcastically. \u201cI’m going to go shoot up a school
\n full of kids and eat their still, beating hearts<\/i>,\u201d Carter
\n wrote on Facebook in an argument that stemmed from a dispute
\n involving a computer game. He faces upwards of 10 years in prison
\n if convicted of making a terroristic threat.\n<\/p>\n
