A recent poll shows that a wide majority of Canadians disapprove of the way their government has handled the Senate expenses scandal.\n<\/p>\n
According to an Ipsos poll released on Sunday, around 70 percent of the Canadians disapprove of the way Prime Minister Stephen Harper\u00e2\u201e\u00a2s government has handled the Senate scandal involving hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of fraudulent expenses.\n<\/p>\n
\u00c5\u201cTo me, the senate scandal is only one of a number of signs that this is a corrupt government, a government that has constantly manipulated information that has not told the truth. We now see the prime minister himself lying about the degree of knowledge that he had,\u201d said Patrick Barnard, an instructor at Dawson College.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
The poll also showed a 38 percent disapproval rate within the members of the conservative party, of which the prime ministers calls his own. <\/p>\n
\u00c5\u201cThe conservatives\u2026have been very adept at talking the talk of good management, balancing the books, running a moral tight ship and so on and so forth, but have been very successful at doing the total opposite,\u201d said attorney Ken Fernandez.\n<\/p>\n
Another Canadian poll showed that only 13 percent of the Canadians believe Harper was honest in saying that he had no knowledge of the recent scandal involving his Chief of Staff Nigel Wright\u00e2\u201e\u00a2s 90,000-dollar bailout of Senator Mike Duffy.\n<\/p>\n
This is while a Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) criminal investigation showed conflicting statements in the story told by the prime minister that Wright had told at least three senior people in Harper\u00e2\u201e\u00a2s office about the transaction.\n<\/p>\n
The recent poll also revealed that just 30 percent of those polled believe the Harper government deserves re-election in 2015.\n<\/p>\n
\u00c5\u201cThis is a very, very bad government. It is taking Canadians a very long time to wake up to it,\u201d Barnard concluded.\n<\/p>\n
