{"id":48558,"date":"2013-07-08T08:29:41","date_gmt":"2013-07-08T07:29:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/breaking-news\/34-pro-morsi-protesters-killed-in-cairo-3\/48558\/"},"modified":"2013-07-08T08:29:41","modified_gmt":"2013-07-08T07:29:41","slug":"34-pro-morsi-protesters-killed-in-cairo-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/breaking-news\/34-pro-morsi-protesters-killed-in-cairo-3\/","title":{"rendered":"&#039;34 pro-Morsi protesters killed in Cairo&#039;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Security forces kill 34 pro-Morsi protesters in Egyptian capital: Health Ministry<\/p>\n<p>Supporters of ousted Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi and Muslim Brotherhood members gather during a demonstration at Raba al-Adwyia Mosque in Nasr City, Cairo, on July 7, 2013.<\/p>\n<div id=\"divDetailBody\">\n<p>At least 34 supporters of Egypt\u00e2\u201e\u00a2s ousted President Mohamed Morsi have been killed by the security forces during protests in the capital, Cairo, the country&#8217;s Health Ministry says.\n<\/p>\n<p>Egypt\u00e2\u201e\u00a2s Muslim Brotherhood has also confirmed that its supporters were killed on Monday when the army attacked a sit-in outside the Republican Guard barracks.\n<\/p>\n<p>Muslim Brotherhood said that snipers targeted protesters attending the sit-in.\n<\/p>\n<p>Dozens of people were wounded and taken to nearby hospitals.\n<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Egypt\u00e2\u201e\u00a2s Freedom and Justice Party (FJP) estimates that more than 50 people were killed in violence.\n<\/p>\n<p>Witnesses say Egyptian troops used live ammunition to disperse the protesters in Nasr City District, eastern Cairo.\n<\/p>\n<p>The Strong Egypt Party has condemned the killings, saying General Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, the head of Egypt\u00e2\u201e\u00a2s army, is responsible for the deadly incident.\n<\/p>\n<p>The Egyptian military, however, put the death toll at 16 and said that one officer was killed and 40 wounded after the military compound was attacked by a \u00c5\u201cterrorist group.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>According to Egypt\u00e2\u201e\u00a2s television, protesters are continuing with the sit-in outside the Republican Guard building despite the attack.\n<\/p>\n<p>Supporters and opponents of Mohamed Morsi remain on the streets as tensions continue to rise across the country.\n<\/p>\n<p>On Sunday, Morsi\u00e2\u201e\u00a2s supporters held demonstrations on Rabia al-Adawiya Square and Al-Nahda Square close to Cairo University, demanding his return to power.\n<\/p>\n<p>They also erected barricades and set up checkpoints across Cairo, blocking the main road leading to Cairo International Airport.\n<\/p>\n<p>Anti-Morsi demonstrators gathered in Cairo\u00e2\u201e\u00a2s iconic Liberation Square and around the presidential palace.\n<\/p>\n<p>Opponents of the ousted president also took to the streets in Alexandria on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea and in other major cities across the country.\n<\/p>\n<p>On July 3, General Sisi announced that President Morsi was no longer in office.\n<\/p>\n<p>The chief justice of Egypt\u00e2\u201e\u00a2s Supreme Constitutional Court, Adli Mansour, was sworn in as interim president of Egypt on July 4.\n<\/p>\n<p>DB\/HSN\/HMV<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Republished with permission from: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.presstv.ir\/detail\/2013\/07\/08\/312783\/promorsi-protesters-killed-in-cairo\/\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"&#039;34 pro-Morsi protesters killed in Cairo&#039;\">Press TV<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Security forces kill 34 pro-Morsi protesters in Egyptian capital: Health Ministry Supporters of ousted Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi and Muslim Brotherhood members gather during a demonstration at Raba al-Adwyia Mosque in Nasr City, Cairo, on July 7, 2013.
