Official government figures in Britain show BBC has handed over-generous severance payments to its senior staff in violation of the corporation\u00e2\u201e\u00a2s own guidelines.\n<\/p>\n
According to the latest figures by the National Audit Office (NAO), the state-broadcaster has given \u00a325 million in pay-offs to 150 of its high-ranking personnel since 2010.\n<\/p>\n
The NAO said around one fourth of the payments more than the corporation had to pay out under the staffs\u00e2\u201e\u00a2 contracts describing the situation as \u00c5\u201cpoor value for money\u201d.\n<\/p>\n
The NAO concluded that the broadcasters\u00e2\u201e\u00a2 pay-offs were too often in breach of public trust and its own regulations on severance without good reason, leading to an extra cost to the British license-fee payers of more than \u00a31 million.\n<\/p>\n
In reaction to the report, BBC’s new director-general Tony Hall admitted the corporation had lost its way regarding the severance payments over the past years.\n<\/p>\n
Hall said they are introducing a \u00a3150,000 ceiling for the future severance pay-offs at the corporation.\n<\/p>\n
