The UK\u00e2\u201e\u00a2s opposition Labour party has considered supporting an in-out referendum on Britain\u00e2\u201e\u00a2s membership of the European Union (EU) as early as its autumn party conference.\n<\/p>\n
The shadow cabinet is reflecting on a few options, including backing a referendum on the UK\u00e2\u201e\u00a2s membership to be set before the 2015 general election or six months after it.\n<\/p>\n
The Labour party\u00e2\u201e\u00a2s amendment would suggest a pre-2015 date for the vote.\n<\/p>\n
This would put Conservative MPs in a tight spot as to whether or not to stick with Tory leadership\u00e2\u201e\u00a2s position that expects negotiations with EU members some time in 2017.\n<\/p>\n
Labour leader Ed Miliband came under pressure form his own party MPs to offer a referendum on Britain\u00e2\u201e\u00a2s EU membership.\n<\/p>\n
A group of Labour backbenchers signed up to a campaign called \u00c5\u201cLabour for a Referendum\u201d, calling on Miliband to do a U-turn on his refusal to offer the British people an in-out vote on the UK\u00e2\u201e\u00a2s relationship with the 27-nation bloc.\n<\/p>\n
